The AMES Management Committee 2011-2012

Rob McDermott (Convenor)
Rob is a lecturer in the Department of Creative Industries at Forth Valley College. He teaches English and Media Studies, and is responsible for various theoretical and production units from Level 3 to Degree level and is a Higher Media Studies marker. He is part of the development team for HN Media and Communication and a member of the Media QDT.
Des Murphy (Secretary) Formerly Principal Teacher of English and Media at Bridge of Don Academy in Aberdeen and Curriculum Support Teacher for Media for Aberdeen City, Des is now a freelance CPD provider He is a bfi associate tutor and is currently editor of the Media Education Journal. Robert Preece (Treasurer)
Robert was PT Geography at Inverness Royal Academy, but in many years also taught Media Studies. He retired from full-time teaching in 2003, but still retains an interest in Media Studies through AMES. He has been Treasurer since 1997.
Alastair Allison
Alastair formerly taught English and Media Studies at Linlithgow High School. He is a founder member of AMES and has served as Principal Assessor for NC Media Studies. He remains an SQA moderator for Media Studies.
Claire Hancox Claire is currently seconded to Education Scotland.
Mary Birch
Mary teaches English at Harlaw Academy in Aberdeen and teaches NQ Media Studies and Advanced Higher English Reading the Media.

Rick Instrell

Rick was Principal Teacher of Computing at Lasswade High School Centre, Midlothian. He is also a mathematics teacher, a founder member of AMES and has co-written Computing and Media Studies courses and units for SCOTBEC, SCOTVEC and SQA. He co-wrote the original Media Studies NQ arrangements. He was a British Film Institute associate tutor and now acts as an educational consultant and CPD provider.
Kirsty MacKinnon
Kirsty Mackinnon teaches English and Media Studies at Liberton High School in Edinburgh.
Steve James
Steve teaches Media Studies in Department of Creative Industries at Dumfries and Galloway College.
Karen Meikle
Karen teaches English at Fortrose Academy. She has an Honours degree in Art History from St Andrews University. She has a keen interest in contemporary Scottish fiction and the films of Ken Loach, Mike Leigh and Peter Greenaway.
Liz Roberts
Liz was Team Leader and Curriculum Manager at Aberdeen College, teaching SCOTVEC Media modules, HND and NQ Media Studies. She was involved in writing Arrangements for NQ Media Studies and is a setter for the Reading the Media Paper for Advanced Higher English.
James Wilson
James is Head of Division of the School of Communication and Media at City of Glasgow College. Industry experience includes local press, promo production and managing STV’s on-air promotions department.
